The technique of Polaroid manipulation is not new, and in fact has been used by other experimental photographers. It is accomplished by rubbing and smearing (“painting”) the photographic emulsion as the image develops.  It is immediate, spontaneous and impressionistic -- done on the spot, in front of the subject matter.

Once the polaroid image has been created, it is re-photographed and/or digitized (the original Polaroids will inevitably fade over time)  It is then possible to enlarge the photo to any size.  No attempt is made to further manipulate the image in the darkroom, or digitally by computer.

This type of polaroid manipulation can only be made with a type of film that is no longer manufactured, hence the art medium itself is almost extinct.
